Sizing Your System
When it comes to your air conditioning system, bigger is not always better. Your A/C system should be custom fitted to your home. Insist that your contractor use a correct sizing calculator before ordering equipment or signing a contract. The most common problem is oversized equipment.
Oversized HVAC units:
- Operate inefficiently and can be less reliable because of frequent compressor cycling and poor humidity control
- Can be noisy and are unnecessarily expensive to purchase, install and operate
- Don't run long enough to dehumidify the air, leaving you and your family feeling cold and clammy
Undersized HVAC units:
- Have inadequate airflow
- Are inefficient because they must run continuously to meet the target temperature
- Often break down sooner because they must run more to meet comfort levels
