According to the California Hotel and Lodging Association, electricity use accounts for 60-70% of the utility costs of a typical hotel. The Premium Efficiency Cooling Program has dedicated half a million dollars to assist hotels and motels in the SDG&E® service area to increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs. Cash incentives are available for retiring inefficient Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTACs) and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs) and replacing them with premium efficiency units.

Our two-year goal is to sign up 50 hotels for complete equipment change-outs. While we will also rebate equipment replacements and new construction on a room by room basis, we encourage hotel owners and facilities managers to reserve funds for whole-hotel retrofits.

Premium efficiency air conditioners will help prevent breakdowns, enhance the comfort of guests, lower energy use, and most of all, save money over the life of the equipment. Program incentives of $200 per ton are available for new construction, replacement on burnout, and early retirement units in buildings built before 2002 or after 2006.

The Premium Efficiency Cooling Program has negotiated below-market pricing on:

  • Enalasys ComfortPulse™ adaptive climate controllers
  • Telkonet SmartSystem™ energy management systems

The ComfortPulse™ units save electricity by optimizing fan motor speeds to improve guest comfort, reduce noise, and eliminate hard starts. The SmartSystem™ technology uses occupancy sensors and complex algorithms to reduce run-hours when guests are away from the room, with optional networking and front-desk management of room units.

  • Up to 50 free units will be installed with the purchase of 50 units, plus incentives on each purchase.
  • These units are smart upgrades to guest rooms with existing PTAC or PTHP units in good working condition.
  • Participating contractors and manufacturers can assist in evaluating whether your site qualifies for program discounts.

Customers are not obligated to purchase any goods or services.

*Your savings will vary with occupancy and run-hours. Program ends 12/31/2011 or when funds are no longer available. Must be San Diego Gas & Electric® customer. Restrictions apply: PTAC/ HP units must be in good working condition and building must have been built before 2005. Charges may apply for smaller PTAC/HP units. Replacements of PTHP units with PTAC units are not eligible for rebates. Units that are replaced cannot be coupled with incentives for controllers or energy management systems. Must commit to maintaining controller and energy management system units at the same property for 10 years, and provide reasonable access for measurement and verification activities. Offer is limited to one controller per AC unit and per room.

 

The Premium Efficiency Cooling Program is funded by California utility customers and administered by San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E®) under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission, through a contract awarded to Conservation Services Group.
